Party as if it's Your last Day on Earth !

Here’s what Beach Republic has in store for party lovers over the festive season.

19Cultures from around the world have predicted that a cataclysmic event will take place at the end of 2012. The Mayans of Central America were more specific with their amazingly detailed calendar, which simply ends on the 21st of December 2012. Let's hope that the scribes just ran out of stone tablet, and couldn’t extend the calendar further. So with the demise of the world a possibility, Beach Republic, Samui's party hot-spot located just north of Lamai, decided to react in the only way they know how - throw a party! And hey, if the world does end, they promise all drinks are on them. Well okay then. No holding back. Tickets to the party on the 21st are a mere 200 baht per person, which includes a free beer, glass of wine or cocktail. Top DJs that have chosen to spend their last night on Earth performing at the venue, include Petruschka, Simon Solo and Absolud. Seems like a pretty good way to go out in style.

Should the world not end as predicted, we can all enjoy a sunny Christmas on Samui, and once again, Beach Republic has taken care of the hard work involved in preparing a festive meal. A set menu will be served on Christmas Eve, starting with an hour of free-flow cocktails and other beverages, as well as canapés, while folks mingle and get into the festive spirit. After guests take their seats, starters are served comprising confit chicken terrine with roasted chestnuts, and caramelized cranberries. A Cabernet and cranberry sorbet cleanses the palate before the main course arrives. For a twist on the traditional, the dish is made up of pan-fried lamb tenderloin stuffed with a goats cheese and mint potato fondant, accompanied by a medley of baby vegetables. Those that still have space will end the meal with a dark chocolate and passion fruit gateau and a Christmas pudding ice-cream bombe.

Those that prefer to celebrate Christmas on the 25th, will be pleased with the more English-style menu prepared for lunch by new Executive Chef, Martin Bower. He hails from the UK, so knows how to do a traditional roast lunch. Martin trained for three years at Stratford College, before working in professional kitchens around the world for the past 15 years. Two years ago, he moved to Phuket from Australia, taking a job as F&B Operations Manager for Avisa Hotels. As most people do, he fell for Thailand's charm and decided to remain in the land of smiles. Beach Republic was happy to snap him up, adding his culinary skills and experience to the team.

So what can those planning to get as stuffed as a Christmas turkey, expect from Martin's kitchen on the 25th? Highlights of the starters buffet include a chicken, mushroom and asparagus terrine; poached prawns in seafood sauce, smoked salmon and an assortment of salads. The carvery section overflows with traditional roasts of turkey, ham and sirloin of beef, as well as a braised lamb with roasted shallots. Nothing says 'British' more than roast parsnips and crispy roast potatoes, along with steamed veggies and all the trimmings. A creamy chicken and oyster mushroom stroganoff adds a touch of richness. For an Asian flavour, the menu includes chicken and cashew nuts as well as stir-fried beef in oyster sauce.

You haven't made the most of a buffet if you don't roll out of the restaurant, belt buckle secretly undone. End on a sweet note with triple chocolate mousse, apple and cinnamon cheesecake, Christmas pudding crème brûlee, dark chocolate and chestnut tartlets and an assortment of ice-creams and fresh fruit.

Seeing in the New Year because hey, if the world is still around, this is one eve definitely worthy of celebration, Beach Republic is hosting an 'Around the World' buffet and party. Dishes from Japan, Thailand, Mexico and Europe will be served, along with Champagne at midnight to toast in 2013. Entertainment includes a fire show, top DJs, and an elaborate fireworks display as the clock strikes 12.

Beach Republic's regular events continue throughout the festive season, so here's a reminder of what's on the cards:

Every Wednesday night sees the 'President's Asian Buffet Feast' a selection of mouth-watering authentic delights. Served from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, the spread costs only 600 baht ++ per person.

'Soulful Saturdays' are a great way to while-away the weekend. DJs entertain from noon until sundown. Pizzas and local beers are on a 'buy two, get one free' basis.

Wine lovers will enjoy the wine buffet every Saturday and Sunday. A ticket for 1,300 baht ++ allows three hours of free flow wine between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm, with the clock starting when you get your first glass. Choose from a selection of 10 different wines.

Sunday Sessions features 'The Ultimate Sunday Brunch Club' with a vast buffet of international fare served from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm for 1,400 baht ++ per person. DJs keep the atmosphere going until sunset.

Whether you are looking to chill with a glass of wine by the pool, enjoy a Christmas meal with friends and family, or party away into 2013 (Mayan predictions aside, of course), Beach Republic is the place to be.
