Wed in Bliss

With sun, sea, sand and an ‘I do’ or two, weddings at Nora Buri Resort & Spa are a piece of cake.

14-15 As far as days in your life go, your wedding day’s a pretty important one. Some claim the most important. So, needless to say, it’s imperative that you choose the perfect destination.

Samui’s not only known worldwide for being a fantastic tourist destination, but also a wonderful wedding spot too. And given all the pressure that’s placed on a wedding day, that fact really says something about the island.

Every wedding is special, of course, but one that’s held on the beach, with the stunning weather that comes with a tropical country, is undeniably one step up from ‘the norm’. And after seeing a display for Nora weddings, while attending a convention in Melbourne, Nathan and Kara just knew it was their ideal venue. But, as every discerning bride does, Kara went to check it out in person to make sure it was as good as it looked in the brochure. Thankfully it was. “The pictures we saw at the convention were exactly what we were looking for, and when I came here I was just blown away – it was perfect. Everything we wanted and more.”

There was not even a hint of
stress in the air. Everybody
knew what they were doing,
so there was no rushing
around or last-minute nerves.

Aside from the obvious beauty of the venue itself – it’s a large, beachside property with two pools and stunning tropical architecture – the specifics of the ceremony were a big part of the attraction. “We loved the fact that after we chose the look we wanted, everything was taken care of. It wasn’t stressful at all.” Kara explained, “There was no manic decision-making because our wedding planner asked us exactly what we wanted early on and then made it happen.”

During her recce visit Kara fell in love with the resort. But she also realised that the Nora Buri Resort & Spa Wedding Planner, Lloyd Maravilla, was just what she’d been looking for too, “Lloyd seemed truly excited to make our dreams come true. He shared our vision.” And seeing Nathan, Kara and Lloyd together, it was plain to see that they have a genuine friendship and fantastic rapport.

The day I met Nathan and Kara, was at the briefing the day before their wedding. Bride and groom were all smiles. There was not even a hint of stress in the air. Everybody knew what they were doing, so there was no rushing around or last-minute nerves.

That day, the pair greeted Lloyd in the function room with a giant bear hug, and excitedly introduced him to the family members that had come along as, “The most amazing wedding planner ever!” It was apparent that Lloyd and the team at Nora Buri Resort & Spa had exceeded the bride and groom’s expectations. Kara put it brilliantly, “He put us at such ease right from the outset. I trusted him completely and he really delivered. The whole process was so simple, we just chose a package and then he personalised areas to make it special for us.” That meant that in the months leading up to the wedding, the happy couple were able to sit back, relax and enjoy being engaged.

At Nora Buri Resort & Spa you can opt for a Thai, Western or mixed Thai and Western ceremony, like Nathan and Kara did. They chose the combination option because they wanted a homey experience but also some local touches. So along with some Thai cultural extras, their wedding package included:

  • Honeymoon set up of guest room with flower decoration

  • Upgraded room category for entire stay

  • Private round trip transfer from the airport

  • Complimentary one night stay with a minimum of six nights direct booking

  • Signing of wedding ceremony certificate

  • Corsages

  • Private, candlelight barbecue dinner

  • Wedding cake and one bottle of sparkling wine for toast

  • Two hour Anodas Spa special package (before or after the wedding day)

  • One bridal bouquet and special corsage for the groom

  • Floral archway and aisle stand with candles and flowers

  • Wedding venue with fresh floral arrangement and decoration set up

  • Planting of love tree with both names written on a piece of heart shaped wood

  • Escort by musician and background music at the ceremony area

For Nathan and Kara, the whole day started bright and early at 7:30 am with breakfast. Then they headed down to the limo for a trip to Wat Plai Laem Temple for the Thai wedding ceremony. After that, Kara was whisked away to her pool villa and began dressing and preparing for the main event – the Western wedding ceremony.

And that kicked off at 4:15 pm – sharp! – marked by the sound of a gong, which indicated to guests to stand up in anticipation of the bride and groom’s arrival. The ceremony officially started at 4:30 pm, and after the vows were said and the rings exchanged, the bride and groom moved on to plant their love tree, cut the cake and indulge in a sumptuous wedding dinner. Then, as is customary, they partied into the night!
